Sigh, did i tell you the big storage buildings are coming tomorrow? DH will want to get right on putting stuff in there. Me, not so much. Already have a to do list including hot wire the garden, work on the coop and wash the dishes plus plant the stuff a friend sent me. No down time here.

So, a couple of days ago, right after I let the big group of layers out of the barn, I noticed a little ball of feathers in the middle of the yard. "Ugh," I thought to myself, "something got one of my birds!" I walked over to investigate and there, barely moving, was a little dove. We have a pair that have been nesting in one of our trees - about 30 or more feet off the ground on the other side of the property, so I had no idea how it got where it was. So, I picked it up and brought it in the house. (I know, there's a boat load of ethics that go with this decision...) DD did a bunch of research and we have been feeding and caring for this cute little thing ever since. It has totally won all of our hearts with its little chirping, wing flapping excitement when you get ready to feed it. And don't worry, we are practicing tight biosecurity so as not to transfer anything from it to the chickens. And, WV, I Nutri Drenched it too! In this pic, it just finished oatmeal, which it managed to get all over its face !View attachment 1112863

I'm learned that doves kick their offspring out of the nest at about 2 weeks, then continue to feed them on the ground for another 2 weeks. I'm thinking something may have carried our little friend across the yard and then gotten interrupted and dropped it (it had one small wound on its wing - which could also have happened being knocked out of a high nest). At any rate, it wouldn't have survived out in my yard for very long. Good news that it may only take a couple weeks of special feedings before it can eat on its own!

Ive kept doves in the past. They were among my favorites. I could fall asleep anywhere listening to their soft coos. Sweet birds.

2 storage buildings, roughly 12x20. One will have the Mule and the lawn tractor in it, plus garden tools and car maintenance stuff. The other will be a work shop where i can build things. Plus extra stuff from the house. Only 2 closets in our log cabin.

This little thing has pretty much melted our hearts. It "asks" for attention when it hears our voices. So sweet!
