@NorthTexasWink I'm worried about kiki... I'm thrilled that you are ok and I know she is too for the moment--but she's really worried and doesn't want folks to know that . How do I help?

Our dogs are inside at night and outside all day. The Shepherd is very protective. She would definitely bark if predators were around. Often she goes out at night to potty and chases critters off. But we don't have a livestock dog yet.Do you have a couple outdoor pooches? I'm pretty sure the only reason i still have chickens at all is because of Princess and Zoomer. They aren't even "official" livestock guardian types, just a couple of Kelpie crosses that we spent, I don't know, a thousand hours and several hundreds of pounds of treats training to live with the chickens (okay, i exaggerate a tiny bit, but it was LOTS on both accounts!).
For some reason, even the big animals are not interested in our yard (although if the ridiculous birds perch super high in a tree, the raccoons will get them) with those two "on patrol". I know dogs aren't the answer for everyone, we just really lucked out with them!

People can always go donate blood. There is always a need for donors, disaster or not.Sitting here powerless is frustrating....

Welcome aboard!! Most the time we talk chicks, brooders, broodies, etc, but it's also okay if there's something else going on you want to "bounce off" the chick-along'ers! (We've been talking flood, fire, natural disaster lately - go figure - but also talk about all our other backyard friends too (and some wandering front-yarders too!) I'm glad you are here!!Cool thread!
I have three 5 week olds and two 2 week olds.
The two 2 week olds had some trouble hatching which was quite stressful because it was my first time hatching eggs. The problem was that the membrane dried. The first chick got out okay but the second one hatched too early so as I was helping it I hit some blood vessels but thankfully they weren't connected to the chick. When I was almost done I saw that the yolk was not fully absorbed yet! I was praying and hoping like crazy and the Lord answered my prayers because little Ivory is safe and sound! She is noticeably smaller than the chick who is a day older then her but I'm so glad she's alive!
I'm so exited to hatch chicks again next year!!!
LOVE chick pics so post if you get a chance
