raising chickens as a money saver??

Our 13 year old daughter told her father that we could sell the extra eggs from our 4 Buffs and that would pay for the coop---hahahahaha!!

Saving money? Probably not, but raising chickens--the whole experience--has been such a great example for our two teenage daughters--that the freshest, most organic food is what you raise and grow yourself!

LOL No college for these biddies! lol My hubby didn't believe me that they have their own language, different "words" for everything, but after spending some time with them, he is starting to understand their language, and asks me "What are they saying?" He also loves to throw out cracked corn for them, or to hold it in his hand while they eat it... I love watching him learning to enjoy those simple little things that other people think are so strange but that I love so much!

A lot of times when I am outside putterin' in the garden....tinkerin' in the shop....puttin' up firewood or whatever....I find myself takin' a break every now to then and pullin' up a lawn chair next to the chicken run and watchin' them while I rest up and enjoy a cold iced tea. The wife likes to bring out a coupla hunks a bread and they flip out tryin' to out eat each other. If I sit down inside the run....they jump up on my legs and tell me all kinds of stories...
