Raising Chickens to Show and Starting Lineages

Where should someone start reading for information reguarding chicken genetics and showing? I want to learn what it takes to breed a line of chickens to the standard and show them - but most importantly I want to have quality representations of a breed (or breeds) for years down the road. I hear BYC's talk alot about a "lineage" of chickens and then they will state someone's name. What is a lineage and how do you start one?
