Raising chicks for friend

Well i had to put my 9month old leghorn with them. she got bareback from being my roosters favorite an its been really cold and shes not big like the rest of my floev. She has always been at the bottom of pecking order. Even with the chicks, shes a special girl . The first couple days the chicks would peck at her and shes twice their size and she doesnt peck back. But today they seem to be getting along better with no pecking.
Awww! Love it!!! :love

I think maybe I’ll try that. Wait till the newbies are a bit bigger and then add the EE.

Yeah ive tried to introduce them to the rest of my flock not the recommend way just supervised and the other hens an roosters were iffy about them. So when spring hits an the snow goes away here it will be easier. Since they free range.also my chicks just turned 9 weeks today.

No way would I consider brooding 8 chicks in 2 separate groups. Yes, your two will miss their brood buddies, but they will adjust. As the flock owner, we make the decisions that work best for our needs, as well as the needs of the flock. If OP had coop space for 3 pullets instead of two, that might be an advisable plan. But, as long as she has room for the two to safely join the others in a panic room set up as done by @azygous , that will work ok.

Well my order was placed... darn chicken math! Went from 4 for me to 8! Also stopped at tsc and got feed they had lights on sale. Looks like I’m ready! Only 6 weeks till they arrive! Gota build a new brooder box as last time I used my buddy’s but he will be using it for his 6! Thinking I may start a brooder box thread for my build along with my mama heating pad. Once I finish that I think I’m going to build a tractor for some meat birds. Maybe I’ll start a thread for that as well.....

I wouldn't brood them separately either.
They'll be fine when its time to say goodbye to the others.
Splitting them up sounds like more work and better chance of losing one or both of yours due to less buddies to keep each other warm.
