What are some legitimate benefits of raising ducks? I want to raise a few but I have to convince my dad to let me....

Meat, eggs, grass/weed control, bug control, comic relief, stress reduction, and natural anti-depressant properties.

My ducks have gotten rid of a lot of the dandelions on my lot. Also the plantains. They eat slugs, earwigs and roly poly bugs. Their poo makes good fertilizer. They are goofy and friendly and VERY entertaining. My runner is a first class fly hunter and she lays HUGE eggs. I get one almost every day. My Welsh Harlequins lay almost as many eggs as the runner and their eggs are almost as big.

You can sell their hatching eggs. My ducks have paid for their feed for the next 3 months already

They are also very hardy and can easily put up with all kinds of weather with a little shelter.

My 5 ducks are WAY cheaper to feed than my 3 stupid cats.

You can make money from the eggs. A great "learning experience". We pay $6 a dozen for duck eggs as I have a daughter allergic to chicken eggs. I can't wait to get my own ducks. Good luck!

Thinking about what Wifezilla wrote, it could be lucrative to raise breeds of ducks that are in demand or unique. I have them for gardening help - slug & insect control and fertilizer. Indian runners have a reputation for being good egg layers & good foragers (in the summertime they can find much of their own food if you have enough land).
