Raising geese for my dads pond

I would discourage your father from getting geese. Lay out the minimum commitment he must provide to assure they survive. Geese are much more hands on than chickens. They do not put themselves to bed at dusk like chickens so automatic pop doors do not work with them. They are mobile in the dark so they will find trouble at night. Geese are more apt to sleep on the bank of the pond and not on the water.
The only way I see his plan working is to either have a 24/7 lgd live with them or use electric poultry netting around the pond.

I agree, you have to have some protection

Oh wow ok I was thinking they were like chickens and put themselves to bed.. thank you for all this eye opening info! Are ducks the same as geese?
