Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Even enlarging isn't helping me much. Is his vent clear? How old, again? If it's newly hatched, it absolutely could be umbilicus attached to a drying, unabsorbed yolk sac. If that's what it is, leave it alone or snip if it's dragging and getting in the way, so long as the cord is dry.

7 days old. I took the heat off them. Inspected and wiped butts as needed yesterday. This one is the only one with pasty butt. After I bathed his butt I observed him. Took a minute but he took a big poop. This mornings inspection went good. Couldnt tell his butt or vent from another. Put some probiotics in their water this morning. Hope it helps.

Surprised at how early these birds started flitting across the ground. Today they were practicing jumping. The blind one is coming along very well.

They all seem strong and active. Was afraid that the first 2 weeks after hatching would be the hard part but these guys are set.

Up to 2 weeks is the good time with Guineas, They are normally 3-4 weeks old before they are hooked on illegal narcotics.. And if they tell you the pills are for their bad back, do not believe them.

Glad the butts are good today,.

Thanks. Im glad too. Butt wiping sucks.

3-4 weeks and already on the drugs?? That explains why the old batch is soooooo... flamboyant. It will probly be part of the family cycle forever. Poor babies dont stand a chance now. Oh well, butts are clean.

It is always a good feeling knowing your Guineas have clean butts when they head to the Opium dens for the first time.

I have a question for you all. Do you think a guinea could lay an egg she will be 13 weeks old Sat. She's been going in a bush out front and calling to her mate. He won't go in the bush with her. I haven't seen them mate. I found a small egg that is almost a round shape. It has a few black dots on it. This egg was found in the yard and not in the bush. I have chickens and ducks but this does not look like their eggs and it's very small and the shape is totally different then their eggs.

Can you post a picture? Guinea eggs are pretty easy to identify if you've seen them before :) Generally they have a pointed shape to them.

I doubt they could at 13 weeks.. But strange things happen..

Do the eggs look like these?

One turkey on top of a pie of guinea eggs. The tops of guinea eggs are flattened some, no spots to speak of.
