I have been doing stretches 3x a day since the incident. He has been adjusting well and is still getting around to eat sleep poop. So long as he remains active and doesnt display signs of much pain I will continue to work with him. As of now dispatching him would not be so much humane as premature as he is displaying a lot of gumption. Its 48 hrs now. Activity level is improved so I will give him more time. As far as quality of life meat birds are generally caged seperately so if i made accomadations for him with some pullets i dont know that it would be a sufferable life. I cannotl judge the quality of his future life yet as his prognosis is still up in the air. But it is in fact a slipped tendon.

I am so glad to hear!! Please keep me posted on your keet's improvement - I would much rather hear about the keet world gaining another little mobster!

He is doing crazy good. Went to vet. $42...ya ya i know. Lol. But I got instructed. She..the tech.. said I did DG..***** good. She said rom was excellent and indicates no scarring in joint or deformity. No fracture. No swelling, abrasions or bruises or colorations indicative of infection. Great circulation. Good lengthening of tendon. No curling toes...etc etc. Popped right in. Groove is deep also. Splinted him with a straw.

The bad part. He escaped his splint during car ride. How?? No telling. She opted not to tape. Anyway.. I examined him. Tendon is still in place. He conked out during the making of splint 2. She instructed me on applying another splint while there and I practiced and now know I can do this.. Anyway he was walking on his leg within minutes.. well hobbled like a crutch.

Also remember this was the protruding eye deformed bird. Thought the eye got pushed out of his head on 2nd week of treatment cause eyelid had sealed and became flat. Well right after I said the eye was gone next morning his eyelid popped open..eye clean clear and intact. Vet said coloration doesnt indicate blindness for certain. I guess because its shiny black and not dim or grey. She did vision test but he has been handled so much his response to humans is almost not existent. Overall she said because the leg was kept active and in great health she thinks he will have full recovery but then she said well...he should. And then got bumped down again to well...he could ...and then probably would so...we will see.

He began flying yesterday. How he was able to land is beyond me.

Ok so after weI got him out of the car I told you guys the splint had done fallen off but tendon was in the groove. Well once I went to re-splint him I could no longer feel the tendon. I cant understand it because it was obvious before. This led me to assume it was still in. I splinted it. Now he is holding his leg straight out the back. I thought it should be forward. Here are the pics.

You've probably already read and know most, if not all, of whats on my attached link, as it sounds like you are pretty knowledgeable about this topic, but thought I'd include it anyway. In reading it, it talks about wrapping the area with vetwrap to hold it in place. You may have already done this, but thought I would mention it, just in case!

Also, I saw a few different ideas for a "chick chair" and chick slings, and wondered if this might help to get some pressure off of his leg. Here are a few ideas that I saw posted in different places:

A chick chair is used if the chick has been sitting on the hock joint causing it to be red and/or swollen. the easiest one that works for even the tiniest chicks(sebright) is made from a disposable dust mask and an old tissue box, the square kind with the oval opening. Simply cut 2 small holes for the legs and one for poo and lay it like a bowl in the oval opening of the box. cut the box down in size to be the right height for your chick in the natural standing position of chicks.

He is already hobbling on it. Gonna pull splint off and redo it tomorrow just to check to make sure there were no indentations in leg or loss of blood flow and check tendon. The hobble for splayed leg came off but his foot is flat on ground anyway. I just used it to draw leg forward. Doing good. Fingers crossed. Could go either way.

Let the old guys out into coop...meaning the cowards are still hanging in brooder. Not cool. Probably come out tomorrow morning and find them all out. Or not. One did come out but she is looking for the way back in.
