Raising Guinea Fowl 101

How many are there? One concern is that they would ostracize or pick on that lone male since they have already established their flock and pecking order.

There are five new guineas in total. Four females and one male. My current flock is five males and four females.

Ok folks. I need some moral support.
We rescued a group of guineas from deplorable conditions a few days ago. They are in quarantine right now after we removed their blinders and gave them a good once over looking for health issues. Then, after tending all of my own scratches and abrasions...
These are by far the most skittish and freaked out birds I have ever encountered. I have always hand raised my birds after hatching them or getting day old keets, so I am a bit spoiled by well mannered Guinea behavior.
Does anyone have any tips on how to integrate new adults with a history of abuse and mistreatment?
At least my lone male who lost his mate to a fox a few months ago is excited! He keeps pacing the fence line and looking at the new girls with romance in his eyes. Lol

It's anyone 's guess what will happen when you mix the flocks. I expect they will get along fine after some initial blood letting. Of Course, I do not believe in well behaved guineas, they are a myth like the Easter bunny or tooth fairy. Spoiled ones I have seen, I even own some of them, but they have no manners, they have never even said thank you for my allowing them to continue to live here.

Welcome! Are you sure those are pearl pied? They look different to me. Here you can see one of my pearl pied at about the same age

His guineas are pied. You can see the white feathers on the sides of the one and the chest on the other. I happen to know where he got the eggs from, and know there is a mixture of pearl and pied in the original flock. It even throws the occasional white. I also know the original flock is not well mannered.

Ah okay. All the pieds I have seen have white faces and a lot more white on the wings and body, so that threw me off.

Not well mannered? Is there any other possibility? Lol

And here is a question... My white Guineas are growing brown feathers on their neck. They r still considered whites right? Just have poor breeding?

Feathers or a little hairy mohawk? The mohawk is common, in my experience and from what I've read.

They are actual feathers on the lower neck.

Odd. They are definitely white, looking at the pics. I have also seen pinto, but there would be more than a few brown feathers.

I bought these as an assorment and i just thought they were white. I'll get pics later
