Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

The dispatching gets much easier. The first time I had to do it I almost.... almost... cried.

*Those were NOT tears it was windy and I had dust in my eye!*

I found by the third time I had to butcher, it was like clockwork. The deliciousness of home raised chicken will have you salivating when you know it's butcher time! Ours have a firmer texture than store purchased chicken, but they also have FLAVOR and you can over cook them in the oven, and they don't dry out like a store bird either. I LOVE my home grown birds on the table as much as in the chicken pens.

Glad you enjoyed...

My husband laughed so hard at me for tearing up when I killed my food. It's not like I haven't hunted all my life, and I love fresh venison. But I RAISED those babies, for gosh sake, I even wiped their little sticky butts!!

Crooks gone. Missing. :/
No feathers, no body, no one else missing, did they eat her? Whole?! Dang :( I was sorta really looking forward to making her Nana Hen!

We had a couple of hawk attempt attacks last week. The blue jays here are amazing aireal protectors, they nest in trees surrounding coops and in the woods near where they free range and usually protect the yard from buzzards, crows and hawks...but its a wee bit early for them to nest. Maybe one got past the dog and crooks the only one they'd be able to carry away :( dang it
