:love Ahhhh...cute fuzzy butts! My eight yr old has gone from wanting a bunny, to needing a bunny. That would probably finish me off right now. I told him to talk to me in the spring. It at least buys me some time. :/

New Batch #3 doing great. Crook, from batch #2 that never grew got trampled today :( her 5lb siblings hadnot a care in the world following me over to her peeping and mobbed me and her :( so...shivering and squished and thirsty because she can't reach the drinking cups (she sits sideways instead of standing and its a workout reaching for her, she *does* it but was just sad to see the workout to get a drink that would probably make her more thirsty) and then the other birds only let her get close before deciding they are thirsty too...she's not big nuff to butt her way in anymore. So, I put her in the brooder. She showed the peeps that the fermented feed was cool to eat, and now has a pile of teeny-er peeps climbing all ove her instead of small dinosaurs.
I can't cull her. She's a fighter and if she makes it, like I said, she'll live with my layers happily I'm sure. She greets me still and isn't half as food aggressive as her hatchmates. It's almost like she's not a CX or got the short end of the genetic stick. She's definitely not "normal", but I knew that from when her head was upsidedown :/. She's been in the brooder and didn't hurt any nuggets (yet- I know I know not necessarily a good idea but I have no middle size chicks she's still small...)bet this new batch is bigger in less than 2 weeks.

Then there's the dinosaurs. Look ma I found ONE bug....BAM dog pile and the bug
it away! Ahaha

Ahhh...poor little crook neck. Those REALLY are HUGE "dinosaurs" in the yard!! It might be fun to send your little one out there with food and watch what happens...

Sorry, I've got boys...I'd do it to mine.

I've checked on the brooder all day lol Crook is the Main attraction for the peeps. They LOVE her. She's a heater that coos and they've all been good.

I have one splayed leg runt (opened box when they came home and thought she was a gonner but still going!) She was having a rough time so I took two orthodontic rubber bands (for braces on the teeth lol) looped them together and around her feet. She's a bit wobbly but stands up. The rubber bands aren't tight, I was scared to hurt her so I *may* have to tighten them up a tad still. I tried a bandaid and it wasn't happening. Then I tried lil tiny zip ties...ya, nit happening either lol Rubber bands are worth a try and won't cut into her feet as long as they're not to tight. Soft on cheeks for dental :)

:gig yes...my lil one is hilarious, he helps, he's 3 going on 4 yrs old Feb... I give him a scoop and they commence chase while I fill the troughs so its not a football game tackle for me. I have two kids so if he trips, well... :lau JUST KIDDING :/ lol

Thank you for that. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that would do something like that.

You just have to video it now that the chicks have gotten so big.

It's cold...they didn't care. Took off at dawn for the compost pile like it was a giant feed dish (its warmer ground too)...lol then at dinner feeding the kids went on a weather strike so I had to feed without a linebacker. I locked myself in the coop quick to fill troughs and they saw me...dang it...

Making sure they'll fit in the pot!

My girl helps too when she's not in school...she's muuuch neater at filling troughs than the boy lol

Being so cold its been slow on the predator front...dog has taken to surveying flocks from the porch lol

BRRRR everyone is locked up and covered, fingers crossed the extended cold isn't TOO cold :/

The ameraucana are laying finally, I love it. Even if yesterdays eggs were cracked. Apparently eggs freeze not so well doh

He's almost done with a processing table, double sink will sit in the hole and a x large cutting board on other side. It will get coated in a type of food safe plastic to make it easy to keep clean and not stain.
