Angelicisi, your chicks are huge! Almost ready to process?
Mine are 3 weeks old today! I've got one little runt like Crook. He looks like a 1-weeker, but so far, totally healthy. I moved them all over the the meatie pen over the weekend and it turns out I do have 15 chicks! Thought I only had 14, but the hatchery must have sent 2 extra, not just one. Mama hen is still taking care of the babies and doing great. Her sister just went broody 2 days ago, but I think I'll have to break her...timing isn't great and I won't have enough space for more chicks in 3 weeks. Ideal's site says the broilers are ready to go at 12 weeks, but I'll bet it takes a bit longer than that.
About 2 weeks before this batch is ready to go, I'll get another 15 CX. And probably one more batch after that, and then I'll have to lay off due to the heat.
Our weather is normal southwest weather. My brain can't even process how cold some of y'all are getting. Nights are freezing, so I've been covering the meatie pen with some old flannel sheets. They're all alive so far. I freaking love having this broody do all the work.
My little dog is healing up quite well. The entire right side of his face is going to be a huge scar, but it's healing! Whew.
