Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

We had hawks attack. 3 and now buzzards have been staring from a fallen tree and its really making me piping mad. They Hit one, ready to process chicken like a football player and couldn't lift it :/ snapped her wings backwards before hubby could get to them. She passed this morning. It was late afternoon and I worked late, we should have processed her immediately for ourselves.

Chicks were out and 2 were taken in a moments time. It's ridiculous what a perfect predator just did. I'm angry and can't do crap about the losses.

I did secure party store streamers today. Added solar lights on stakes I can move around that don't work but shimmer and glare REALLY well!

Lil chicks have no clue, they're on lockdown for another few days while I figure out protection that doesn't involve staking the dog out.

Gearing up for some processing tomorrow...

I am so sorry to hear that. That burns me up!!!

Can you "take them out" (the predators that is)?

Sure first chance we get lol. But goal is to deter them until then. We were slacking in ariel predator protecting. We have a few changes and additions coming up shortly. Lol

A nursery type mid growth coop and run area for the chicks that are getting snatched outdoors (we will be often over lapping sets of chicks and this is just easier), we are doing an addition to the rabbitry for these guys being grown out for special orders so we torn thru a scrap pile today for framing. They are all waiting patiently for their own cage being made lol
400

and we set up all our equipment.
We will have a chicken processing area we have been setting up, brought out running water, outdoor temp controlled pot for scalding, the plucker, many large bins of ice we have been making nonstop...so crazy busy today I love it and hate it lol tiny bit relieved I get an extra week to pump myself up for it all lol

Even got a few calls from another local selling at $5/lb successfully. She was nice, until I said I wasn't gonna up my price to stay higher...ill only need to raise it with food cost and that's going to improve soon even so she'll be mighty mad when we have big sales. I'd love $2/lb affordable healthy natural local food. Not $5.
