Very happy I didn't sell any of these. This order was for our own freezer (they better grow! We need food lol) so we kept all the chicks. Is hate to get that call lol

I separated 12 large last week because one cut open the side of a lil one over food. Today I studied the group for a few and I have ANOTHER 10 that are like regular week old layer chicks that have feathers growing the wrong way or not at all and the rest look like 3 week old CX :/ aren't these 6 week olds?
We are placin an order next week for 50 CX. I bet that order BEATS this order!I definitely got some runts, whoopsies and some "what is this" chicks. My poor little runts just let the others run over them to eat and wait on the side until everyone is done. I think I will separate the runts and put them in a brooder by themselves. I'm thinking I may not ever process them. They are just too small. They are the same size and weight as the average chick. I think they are killing themselves because they are not meat birds and they are trying to keep up with the amount of food the other chicks are trying to eat and it's making them sick. They don't look good.

I'm really getting antsy about the chicks coming. I have 18 com Mar 20 and 25 coming around May 1. BUT all DP. No cornishx. I'm thinking that now I have my brooder set up and ready I might just pick up 10 or so and get a head start. What do you think? Too much? They would be ready for outside by the time the others come. I have a 3'x12' grow out pen. Just thinking.![]()
