Raising Peachicks "off the ground"

I was thinking about building a 4 X 8 brooder outside. Since I have this big pile of builders sand:

I was wondering if I could put several inches of sand in it, and would that qualify as being "off the ground". I am assuming that the reason for raising peachicks on wire is to keep them away from organisms and disease in the dirt. This is virgin sand and should be clean.

I can see that working i put mine on clean ground at a month old, peas just eat everything i do mean they eat everything , so they get sick faster from catching something.

I keep mine off the ground for 2 to 3 months, if on good bedding or not wet ground a month should be fine.
