Raising pullets with rooster?

Whether or not your idea will work depends upon the temperament of the rooster. Some mature roosters are absolutely fine around pullets and will not start courting/breeding until they are ready to lay. Others are quite different. You can give it a try, but have a plan B in mind. It is highly unlikely that he will fight the pullets.

Thank you for your reply! He is a couple years old by now, so he is not as crazy for the hens as when he was younger. I will probably end up trying to introduce them in separated pens to make sure he isn't going at them through the fence.

Here is a picture of our problem boy. He is not very good at posing for the camera.

I routinely keep a fully adult rooster with immature chickens. The immature chickens sometimes includes groups of females only. Problems usually last only seconds as rooster establishes rank which is usually though display only. The rooster usually creates far less discord than mature hens do.

I would be concerned about potential for roosters fighting through that wire fencing, especially as spring progresses.
