I did alot of research on turkens this spring, I was hoping to get a couple, but his roo had an injury, so hopefully next spring.

One of my cocerns was weather they were cold hearty, and everything I read, and the breeder who lives about 60 miles north of me, all said they were fine with the cold, no problems.

Sultans are wonderful Sometimes there feet feather get broken, so don't be alarmed. Very hardy birds. Wonderful animals with great personalities. Treat them like any other chicken.

Well I have 7 week old sultans but had a rooster prior, standard and two bantams. The only issue I ever had was the rooster seemed not so smart and he did get hurt sometimes free ranging with my tougher cochins. However, he was very gentle and a nerveous wreck. A hawk took him off and the smarter bantams attacked by a racoon. It is awful. Yes, I protect them. My daughter loves this breed so here we go again. My five youngins are sweet. I hope we can make them tame and hold them as much as possible. I am curious as to the intelligence of this bird.

In response to your question, they do fine in Georgia winters and go with the group. They do not fight nor try to pick on other birds. They appear shy most of the time, almost to a point of getting on ones nerves. No cannibals here even when my rooster was bleeding alot with broken leg feathers.

Good luck!
