I live near Raleigh and have a few chickens that are duplicates, have already contributed to the gene pool here, or otherwise are not moving to Florida (where I will have to build chicken housing all OVER again! So space will be at a premium...)
I may not come to the swap unless several people reserve some of these birds, because of the difficulty of finding cages, loading them up, etc. when I no longer have help at home. I will have to pay someone to help me, can't afford it unless some are pre-sold.
If you are interested in any of these, EMAIL ME by no later than Thursday. I will have to hire someone to catch birds and cage them.
What's AVAILABLE:
2 trios of Egyptian Fayoumis (beautiful and one of the oldest breeds in the world)
Adult Blue Egg roosters available who are 1/4 Sumatra and 3/4 South American ancestral stock (it was Kermit's request to cross these two breeds since they have almost the same genetics).
I love them dearly, but they are fathers and grandfathers to almost everyone I have, and if they move to a new flock of hens, they can bring fresh blood and a bit of ancient history to someone else's blue and green egg birds.
One to three black-feathered blue/green egged hens also, related to the boys but out of pure SA hens, so they have a higher percentage of SA blood than the boys. They are smaller than most large fowl but not really bantams, the original natural size of this stock.
There might be one pair of young Quechua type South American birds available, blacker than most Quechua (possible melanistic gene), but very pretty, the cockerel was late in getting hackles and is still very immature looking. I need to see if he looks good enough to try to sell. Want to keep the pullet with him. She is a stitch with her LOOONG neck and tiny muffs and wild eyes. I will miss her when she goes.
Email me off list if interested in any of these birds, thanks!
