You're in a town bigger than mine, and our feed store does deliver! I used to hate the phone too, and all I can say is get over it. I'm not being snooty, just telling the truth. The only way to make friends and get to know the people at the feed store is to talk to them! They shouldn't mind delivering. Hey, it's an extra sale for them!

In the meantime, do you have any grass in your yard? If so, pull some up to feed them. Better yet, can you let them out for a short amount of time while you're watching them? You would be amazed at how much hens can find for themselves if they are allowed out for a short while.

Just saying - I would take the walk with a cart if it was a beautiful day, other wise let them free range and feed them scraps.

remember there have been chickens for many years, but not feed stores

Too bad that was the last of your oatmeal. Long grain rice and pasta, not being whole grain, would provide calories but not much else. A few canned veggies would be good. But the real problem is protein. Can you scramble them a couple eggs each morning? They can eat most any protein, canned tuna, chopped meat, etc. Outdoors will help, esp. if they can find bugs/worms. They need time outdoors at that age anyway.

I wouldn't worry about no chick feed for 4 days if I could get enough protein in them and let them peck for grass and bugs.

You don't lke the phone? come on,,
grow up.. call the feed store and get them to deliver.. It is not a favor on their part, that is what they do.. You are a paying customer.. and tell them you need it TODAY>>

putting your chicks out on grass is ok, but plan on leaving them out for hours,, just a few minutes won't do the trick..

here's an idea...

walk to the feed store, tell them what happened, ask them if they have a small bag - or if they can open one - give you some now and you'll get the rest later.

and if you tell them your story they might even give you a ride back home. people are nice, give them a chance.

if you really cant cowboy up - hard boiled eggs will work, pull a bunch of weeds in the yard, grass clippings etc.... look up what weeds are local and find the most nutritious ones (like dandelions etc).

but seriously - give the people at the feed store a chance - more than likely you'll become 'famous' and if you are a good sport they'll be more welcoming.

i wont even tell you what i did to get famous in my small town. but every body knows me now......

OK, so I'm new here but I really have to say:::
Wow, was this for real???
