Random Dead Raccoon

Take up gun safety and learn to shoot! A 22 is plenty for small critters at close range, especially for critters in a live trap, where it's easy to do a humane kill. Sick raccoons are not an asset, and sooner gone is best.
Your DNR might have been interested in having testing done too. Make sure your own animals are all up to date on their vaccines!!!

A raccoon’s place is out in woods. But in an attempt to find food they’ll end up around houses and humans where they learn food scraps and unsecured food sources such as feed for livestock and pets or livestock themselves can be food. They are unsanitary animals that not only carry very harmful diseases that are bad for other animals and humans, but they stink to high heaven and will destroy structures and cause damage to get to said food sources. As pet and livestock owners it’s our responsibility to keep the animals in our care safe from the harm of wild critters.

Unfortunately relocating coons doesn’t always work as they’ll likely return to where they were removed from or another one (or 3) will take its place. So with that being said, a lot of times the only smart, responsible and safe thung to do with them is to dispatch them into the hereafter so they can not harm us, our pets or our livestock Be it by killing them or spreading some nasty disease.

Around here, skunks are the most common vector for rabies, so if one shows up around the buildings, it dies. Raccoons are more likely to carry distemper, and we have seen more than a few mangy fox and coyote over the years. Any emaciated or sick-looking critter around here is put out of its misery. 1. To end its suffering, 2. To protect ourselves and our animals. (Our cat and dog are both current on their shots.)
