please don’t judge me if I sound overly anxious, I’m not too concerned, but this is my first time with ducklings. I just want to know if this is normal?

Female welsh Harleyquin duckling named Spoon, second day of being here. Hatched on the 23rd. I looked up and noticed her dosing off, but she was opening and closing her mouth. I thought a yawn.. nope. Little pants. Then she stops, dozes off, adjusts, pants, then goes right back to sleep. I checked the heat lamp- it’s 93 right under it, which they arent. Nobody else is panting, she’s now asleep, they’re all spread out but not too much. Does this just... happen sometimes? I’m very confused. She’s fine, now. She slept for a moment, got up and nibbled on some toys, and is back asleep. I’m just confused,
lol.

videos here. One is pretty crappy

93 is too warm for ducklings. Raise the heat lamp so it's 85 under the heat and 80 away from it. once they are a week old the temp needs to drop 5* and each week thereafter. you keep saying you have a waterer for them can they dunk their heads into it? That is very important they can clean their nares and eyes out. A chick waterer is not going to work for ducklings, especially after their first week.

She's hot and gasping for air. Higher the heat lamp until you see they are comfortable and no panting.

@Miss Lydia
Sorry, I forgot to update! It hasn’t appeared since last night! I’ve been messing with the temp all day. trying to find the sweet spot where it’s lower than 89 but higher than 79! Though, they don’t seem bothered by 79, but I want to try to hit 86. we cuddled for a bit

odd, everywhere was saying that was safe. Ty byc! I’ll raise it.

they can! I’m not sure if it’s a chicken or chick waterer, but it’s plenty deep enough to get their nares into. It will of course need upsized as they grow, but they’re definitely able To! Thank you for the concern 💕

that’s what I was worried about, it was just odd to see it in only her when not under the lamp. Going to raise it up today!
