Thought I’d make a thread for my new barn cat, Ranger Danger, on which to share the hundreds of photos I take of him lol. Here is one to start us off:
I got Range in June of this year (2024) after a long search for a new barn cat. I actually found him on Craigslist, and though his description was limited, I somehow knew he was the cat for me. Drove two hours just to pick him up, too
I don’t have a barn cat just to control mice; I also have him to be a companion who will accompany me when I’m working outside or in the barn. He’s definitely great at the job too lol. He enjoys “helping” with coop clean outs especially.
Here he is inspecting the duck shed
He assigns himself other odd jobs too…
He checks to make sure their feed isn’t poisoned, of course
He keeps the barn clear of cobwebs
He takes “inventory”
Patrols the drains
Inspects his machines…
Keeps the flock bully in line
And of course he leaves his “fertilizer” in the garden but I’ll spare you photos of that lol
He is truly a fantastic companion, though. Constantly at my side and ready to come when he is called. He’s a great hiking buddy and we take walks together several times a week.
He’s great on the trails- likes to “narrate” our walks. It’s like having a nature guide lol.
His favorite thing to do, though? Play fetch- He’s always loved it, but god is it all he ever wants to do anymore after I bought him some rubber mice last week. Here he is on the way back to drop one in my hand lol
I train him too. We’re working on a few commands but right now he’s mastered spin, sit, touch and shake. He’s absolutely brilliant and can catch on to a cue within just a few minutes- unfortunately his attention span is incredibly limited lol.
I always have new photos and stories to share about him. He’s a fantastic cat and I truly love having him at my side. Please feel free to share photos of your barn cats as well!
