Rant on Fast Food Rocket Scientists

Oh what an interesting post.

I wholeheartedly agree with Chicken Lady - I have grade school children in a suburban, middle class public school and am genuinely disheartened by the number of children coming to school not ready to learn. Basic needs - like a NUTRITIOUS meal and weather appropriate clothing - are not being met at home. And WHO KNOWS about responsibility and discipline. How can we expect these kids to excel in school when they are not ready to learn?

In the 6 years that I have had children in grade school, I have met some remarkable teachers. They have an amazingly hard job. God knows I couldn't do it.

It actually makes me a little afraid for our future...

Example: I went to Target today to get 2 items. The total order was $8.02. I gave the kid $10.02.

He had to look at the screen 3 times to make sure the screen said that I was to get $2.00 back.

Even I can do that math.

I really wish we could get off the 180 day school year model and send kids to school year round. 180 days a year is ludicrously inadequate for the amount of stuff kids need to learn today.

Kids in Europe go to school 210 days a year, and in India and China they're in school 240 days a year - no wonder we're getting our butts kicked in math and science.

You know, (my opinion) not everything in this world is about math and science. They're important, yes.

But -- let's have a class on common sense and how to write a check or respect other people, manners - something useful like that in this world.

And those kids in Japan are setting themselves up for a live of STRESS. Wait, I think we have that in America too.

As a FORMER Fast Food Worker.... I hated to be stuck in drive thru!! becasue of the rude customers but no as I look back I could count back change and at the end of the night be very close to my reg. total! I try to be nice when I go thru drive thru, if my change is wrong I first tell em it is wrong, and most ask how I know that! I can COUNT! I have had to be nice and teach them how to count back money in the drive thru. I have raised my voice, what gets me is you ask for a Manger and ask them to count back your change and they can't count it back either!!

I am a picky person, For Breakfast, before my wreck 11-15 was 2 pieces of Southern style chicken and a Large Dr Pepper without ice from Mcdonald's, and today it .30 more than yesterday so I asked if that was right, yes'ma. So I paid, got my order and receipt, and it is rang up total different, So I get out on my car and go in to ask why it was so different, because I keep yesterday ticket (hehehe) and the manger tells me that it was how I stated it was how it was rung up. I asked for the Bigger manger , which I knew was in the Store, I got my .30 back. Now they know me by name and know I will fight even for .30!

but I now would not really know it if it was wrong cause I have been off so long!! But I know how to count!! hehehe I had to help lots of my coworkers to count back change, in my 3 years at the Golden Arches!!! I worked other fast food too! never that long again!! Now I only deal with my own money!!!!

AGREED!!! At 19 my son would slap someone if he saw them being rude to a worker or elderly person.

I agree. But, a lot of kids don't have Mom & Dad The kids are dropped off at daycare and how are you supposed to know what they are really teaching them at that level?
