rant rant rant!!! stupid hovabator temp!!!

left front-to right rear--ok got it--yes they have a turner-I will do this thank you-your the first to say this technique!

i have mine in a homemade still air and for 16 days, i've only had one temp spike. i'm keeping it in the basement where the temp and humidity RARELY change. we got up to 90* outside yesterday and i was constantly checking on the bator to make sure the temps were okay. never really changed. i'd say put the bator somewhere where the temp and humidity stay mostly the same.

I am worried now..... My still air seems to be doing fine even with a 20 degree difference at times in the room (no air conditioner). I am opening it 5 times a day to rotate and check water levels.
I had a bit of a problem with the first eggs I set but that "spike" was only to 102.
Is this not the norm?
I am so tiered of staring at a thermometer. I had 3 in there to check how accurate this one is.
I guess I may have an answer in 11 more days.

farrier! :

Is this not the norm?

Some are more stable than others. Environment, ether thermostat etc, effect them all. No 2 are the same.

ok Miss Prissy-I rotated my eggs--its killing me-The temp dropped to 85 degrees an the humidity is down to 26%---how long does this normally take to go back? I have my temp/humdity gage on top of eggs an a seperate one on the turner itself...put more water in-and Im going to ignore it and go work on my coop...you rotate these everyday! all 42 eggs--? it just seems like the bator is open for a long time to do this?

I am up to 51 eggs, and rotate 5 times a day......

I think I have room for about 12 more....

51 eggs being rotated 5 times a day! holy cow and they hatch on time-you have a turner and all?

phew!!! I was about to have a brain toot with smoke and everything--so the 5 minutes it takes or so it takes will not hurt it? I mean with the temps changing so often and taking a while to go back up? ok....

No, it won't hurt them. A hen gets up and leave her nest a few minutes at a time. They are fragile but not as fragile as we tend to make them. What will hurt them is moving them too quickly and causing damage inside that you can't detect.
