Rant! Second hawk attack and insensitive people!

Would a turkey really help to protect the chickens?

I have to admit that I threw two small rocks at the hawk. It didn't seem to faze the bird as I have really horrible aim.

I wanted to say something, but was dumbfounded when the neighbor said, "Suzy, are those your pets?" Would it have made a difference?

I would have been upset too. We had a similar incident a few weeks back without the insensitive neighbors. I just had the clueless neighbor who went on brushing his Newfoundland as my birds shrieked in terror. He had no idea anything was happening. My son went out to play and scared off the hawk by chance and saved the chicken. She had wedged herself behind the woodpike and everyone else had headed for cover. The hawk was trying to get her out. Her feathers are just growing back in now. The hawk is still hanging around and the birds are only allowed to free range if we're in the yard with them. We covered their pen as well.

Do you think that turkeys would really help? I'm worried that they'll scratch people's cars and poop all over the place!

Mine have not been in a building since last may, but I've got old breeds, Midget whites, Blue palms and auburns they roam the farm with out a problem. my chicken jump on cars not the turkeys. I treat them like my chickens.

Earlier in the day, I thought of offering them some free eggs. Ahem...not anymore.
