Rare Breeds

Quote:
I have 1 rooster and 3 hens of Pedrês Portuguesa they are a very rustic breed, selected to be able to survive by themselves:
-very very hardy (no need for shelter in winter);
-if given enough space can feed themselves by grazing (seeds, bugs, weeds, etc);
-very protective of their chicks (sometimes to aggressive my dog is afraid of them);
But they still give one egg a day (if not given any feed may not lay one every day), and grow big (slow but big). Very good chickens for country side.

Their feather patterns look pretty much like a barred rock.

The Kosova Long Crowing Rooster seems to be all black but these are white with black spots or black with white spots. The one crow that I heard was not a long crow (so it seems).....I think it is a breed in Kosovo but can't find the actual name or a source!

* Salmon Favorelles are about gone. They're on the list of Rare Breeds. In Az, you can get a special permit and tax deduction if you get and breed these chickens. The females are Gorgeous. They're also the at the Low End of the Pecking Order. Easy to handle. Will respond to conversation. All around happy hens. I'm going to get more in a month or so.

Personally I think the males are more of a show stopper than the females. Where are you getting them?

Definitely no tax deduction here for maintaining a breeding flock!
