There was a previous thread where a person filled the rat hole underground, with water. She mentioned the smell was horrid, after they drowned and started to decompose.

I thought the rats come out? Do they really stay in the ground and drown? :hmm

No, they will flush, or should at least. Mine did, plus, rats can swim for 3 days, and as far as a quarter of a mile. Unless they got trapped in the hole by being swept away by the water, they will flush. I am assuming these rats got trapped in the holes, and drown.
