RAT question

we have mice and have been catching a few here and there with snap traps. We also luckily have a hunting cat next door who is quite good!
We were told when we first got our chicks to keep the food in metal garbage cans with locking lids... perhaps that would help?

We have a cat also and she does catch mice. Today she was eyeballing one in our hallway inside the house. Couldn't believe it that it was in the house. House was opened up due to A/C unit broke. That mouse was just sitting there staring at the cat. My hubby got it and took it outside and killed it.

Last week when I was feeding the chickens, a mouse came out and one of the Andalusian Hens grabbed it and was playing with it and then one of the Cochin pullets grabbed it and took off. She killed it and left it on the ground. Found two more laying on the ground that had been killed. I don't care who kills them if they just kill them.

I think that the cat can't get to the mice because they hid in cracks and holes and she can't get into the coops to get them. Thought about putting her in the chicken coop and letting her get the mice but she is a pretty big chicken herself and would probably just want out of there.

get or borrow a terrier (ie: foxie) make sure its one that wont chase the hens tho they are good to get rid of rats, cha wa wa's are good too (the bigger ones anyway)

it took me a while

You really do have to make your coop rat proof . And put the food away at night. If you want to see if it's a rat , put an egg where a rat can get it, but a chicken can't, like behind something on the floor next to a wall and see what happens.
