RAT WAR!!

UPDATE SUNDAY AUG. 13, 2017
Wanted to share some photos from first thing this morning. I won't show you the 6 snap trap catches but one big mamba rat caught in the middle of my yard near our barn/workshop. the Snap traps were near the feed cans... they are gross!
7 less disgusting rodents less in my zip code.
I am assume hundreds left since we are surrounded by thousands of acres of farm land.
My free rangers are curious of my new prisoner.

BTW.. that is a jumbo trap that was set up to catch the coon that has been stealing dog food. That's why it was out in the open.

I won another battle in the Rat War, but the War continues long after this thread fades away....

Wow! My husband has just returned from the Rat Embassy. He is weary from the negotiations and travel.
He as informed me that progress is being made now that we have captured a member of royalty, kin to the Queen.
They said If we released our prisoner, they would reduce their presents and not pee and poo in the feed anymore.
My husband rejected their offer and put total withdrawal from our property on the table... or the rat gets the ole 86!
They rejected that offer.
There will be another negotiations meeting tomorrow.
I told my husband, I don't them trust rats... He sighed..

After about two weeks of winning we lost another chick three days ago to the rats again. Poison had disappeared so hopefully the culprit is now on the extinct list or soon to be. More poison put out.

Chocolate cuckoo English Orpington. Dang!

I am having a problem too with the Norway Brown rats looks like your first pic. I bought 2 bait station traps after they ate the baby chicks but looks like they have not touched the bait it has a see through window on top.
looking through those windows you can't see if they have eaten away bits from the sides of the pieces, you have to open and look. Very small amounts are hard to notice, but lethal anyway. The biggest issue is they take it away with them sometimes and stash it around the yard.... the chickens have found some. I need a different solution.

Well I am happy to report that my bait buckets have had the same bait blocks in them for at least 5 days now!!
Have not caught a rat in the live traps in the barn in 4 or 5 days as well.
What was I thinking?
They have a remarkable reproduction rate..
Starting to catch a bunch again. More & more damage in the barn.
