RATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN THE NEST BOXES

I hope someone can help he i have 3 hens that are sitting and one is a white cochin and she started with 21 eggs and still has them but the other to both had i think 18 to 20 each and there eggs were missing day by day i would go check them when the hens would get off the nest to eat and i had a hen that would go in there and i seen her eating one of the eggs so i penned her up thinking it could be her but it kelp happening so i put wire in front of the nest boxes and still it didnt stop and here eggs had goo n them and one hen ended up with no eggs so i gave her more and my cochin started setting 2 days ago and today i went down there and she was real uneasy and i went and took the wire down to let them go eat and rat went running what can i do to get rid of them and not mess with the chickens i dont want to put poison out i dont want the chickens to find them and eat them and traps arent working . and why dont the rats mes with the hens ?

I think you should move the hens and the eggs for a day and then put rat poison. But remember everywhere it is because that night when you close them up ( If you do) Ur going to need to take out the poison that didnt get eaten.

take the hens and eggs out. i would never use poison around them as the chickens may end up eating a poisoned rat or rat droppings and that wouldn't be good instead use the traps with peanut butter.

Move the hen. Poison the rats. It will take a few days. Maybe put something over the nest box so the rats can get in but the hens can't. use the waxy bait that gets carried back to the rats' hole so you get the whole colony. You want to stop this now, before you get more rats.

Yep and always CLEAN the chicken coop after its all over.

well i have moved hens before and they quit setting

well i dont want to use poison and i ont hae the room to move them i have tried traps with peanut butter and it dont work and i have moved hens before they quit setting and i dont want to take a chance of them to stop setting

well you just have to wait for the chicks to hatch and when they hatch then move them.

I think you should take the chickens and the eggs somewhere else get an egg crack it put it where the rat normally take the eggs and put poison in the egg
