I locked my cats in the hen shed for a few hours today and nothing. One came out, my Eve saw it, it took cover in a cinder block and it waited until Eve was facing the other way to scamper to safety. Neither got a rat and I didn't see them come back out after Eve almost had that one. I locked up my chicken feed and locked the girls in. I just got new Silkies that aren't very well protected, so I hope those rats aren't hungry enough to go after them. They aren't babies, but they are smaller than my hatchery Silkies.
Anywho... Tomorrow is poison day. I am kicking the girls out of the shed early and putting bait down. Thankfully the girls already like making me hunt for eggs when they are let out early and I already know their fave spots to go. I get 18-21 eggs on the days I let them out early, so that means the rats are getting between 2 and 10 eggs a day. Oh, and I was leaving the girls in until 11am-12pm to help deter the rats. That didn't help any.
