Ratties and a Kitty - Videos!

I absolutely adore Kyle's (a housemate) ratties. They are such sweet, active little girls who LOVE attention. Kyle has gotten into the habit of taking late night 'rat naps' where he chills with them on the floor in front of their cage and they can explore the room. Though the more outgoing and adventurous one decided to take a trip upstairs yesterday and was returned by one of the other housemates. Seriously, he needs to get rattie sized bells for them!

Anyway, we made some plain popcorn last night and decided to offer it to them. After nommying a piece, they decided to start hoarding it. It was so cute, so it had to be recorded on video. And there is a quick shot of Tonks the meezer getting harassed by the rats, the poor dear!

The second video is an instrumental...of Tonks getting yodeled. She puts up with so much!

Seeing the black and white one makes me miss our Tinkerbell so much. I think its time to get another rat I just love them they are so smart and funny. Thanks for the great smile and laugh. Tinkerbell horded sunflower seeds she her cheeks would just be so full.

We had 2 snakes we got 2 rats for them our one pet store used to euthinze the rats but it went out of business so we had to buy live ones my snake ate one but refused to eat the other one so we put it in a cage for later the snake never did eat her she ended up being a pet. Actually, these three kind of share a similar story, with a different twist! Their "aunt" was a fuzzy who my ball python (since rehomed) that wouldn't eat her. I grew attached to her, she had barely any fur and didn't have her eyes open. Nursed her on soy infant formula, she grew quickly and healthy, and was a contant companion. But I wasn't equipped to house a pair of rats long term. My sister who adores rats offered to take her, and suggested I get a friend since it would be a few weeks since she could take the little "Mouse" as she had been dubbed. Skunk, the petstore rat, came to me pregnant! Nine babies later, I felt a little overwhelmed. My housemate instantly bought himself a huge cage and chose three girls to keep, he had fallen in love with the babies! He always has them with him, on his shoulders or in his sweatshirt! The others in the litter found great, snake free homes.

They do best in pairs, so if you get another rat, get two! It really helps with their social well being, being able to groom, snuggle, and play when you aren't around.

I do have a great story about Tinkerbell and my grand daughter who used to stick her fingers into the cage to pet her Tink would clean out from under her nails my grand daughter would just laugh. It was so cute. The do make great pets.
