I have a question for all you duck experts. My little one is hanging out with me right now watching tv and I noticed every time he walked on my skin that his feet feel really hot. His bill too. But he's acting 110% normal. Trying to steal my cell phone as I type right now. Should I turn his heat off for awhile when I put him back in the brooder? He really doesn't even need heat. He seems fine without it. Can ducks get fevers?

Blech, it replied before I could type, lol...

You can certainly turn off/lower the heat and see how he does... let him tell you where he needs the heat, don't go by 'set numbers'...

But what feels hot to you is normal for them... their respiratory and body temperatures are naturally higher than ours... thus the bator temps of 99.5 to 100.5...

If he feels super hot and seems distressed, that's when you worry...

For Bubs, it's a food thing, lol... when he stops to eat, it's all about how fast and how much he can stuff in in the shortest amount of time...

I LOVE BUBS PANCAKING IN THE FOOD DISH.

Thought you'd like that... he's such a glutton when he starts eating...

He is adorable and a character. How do you go about your day without constantly holding him? I love the name you gave him.

It's a constant battle to not carry him around with me each day, lol... the name popped up by chance... I kept saying 'Look at all the cute little Bubbas!' to them all trooping past... giving Bubs a lift frequently to help him catch up just got it shortened to Bubs...

Now watch Bubs turn out to be a girl...

Years ago we had a chicken that we hatched named Bianca. We told her a dozen times a day what a pretty girl she was. When she turned out to be a roo we kept her name the same & continued to call her Pretty Girl because she knew that was 'her' name ... I'm sure my neighbors thought we're either crazy or really stupid.
