Raw Eggs, Anyone else do this?

My mother makes a yummy sticky frosting from beaten egg whites and you add boiled sugar w/cream of tartar and beat till stiff. Best frosting around yet over the years worry-warts say that isn't healthy because the egg whites aren't thoroughly cooked. They don't know what their missing!!

BYC needs a like button because I also agree!

LOL.......I say that all the time or at least think it!

Done this all my life and I have never once gotten sick.

Growing up, my mother would defrost meat by leaving it on the kitchen counter from when she got up at 6-7 am until she cooked dinner at 5-6 pm...and we never got sick either. This is regardless of it being 20 degree winter outside or 95 degree summer with no AC. I'm shocked we all survived to adulthood.

Its almost like we have immune systems or something.

Raw eggs, believe it or not are good for oyu. My mom braved up and drank one once. She didn't die a slow premature death. It's safer when eating raw eggs to eat your chickens, not the battery hens eggs. Those ones can carry salmonella.

In one of my cooking classes, the chef said that when you add sugar to raw eggs (as in cake or cookie batter), the sugar "cures" the eggs and so it's okay to eat. I have no idea if he's right or not. I grew up eating cookie and cake batter - and don't recall ever getting sick from it. I guess I should Google it to see if the chef was right.

I do it all the time and I haven't died. I don't see why you couldn't, especially knowing where you eggs came from.

Personally, I think one of the problems with the younger generation, is they are sheltered from many of the things older people did as kids. I played outside, after school until dark. Swam in lakes, played in mud puddles, drank from the water hose, ate raw cookie dough, cake batter, mud, dirt , probably put leaves and other things in my mouth. I am healthy, I am still here.
