pretty sure that one will be my next and last bator-Ive been researching this one since you posted about it and it looks great-not huge but perfect size and very reliable-your right too-for the cost of the brinsea I wanted this one is bigger and seems easier to me? the savings begins after xmas....I hope to have it by the time my SL brahamas are laying

I cannot imagine owning an incubator and losing hatches like that-

Bat Cave Im so sorry-silkies are very unreliable layers-Im saddened mine are not laying at all anymore and when they do I want, just like you, something I can look forward too , not stress about will it work or not.

Hmmm I had mine closed the entire time until hatching day, and when the eggs start hatching, I then open up the ventilation hole to one third. (1/3rd open). BUt that with the Suro20, I don't know if its the same with the other Suro models?

I have had problems with my suro from the first hatch. My first hatch was late, and a lot of my chicks had curled toes, or were dead in the shell full term. I hatched again and ran the temp a tad higher and my hatch was better but still a wee bit late, and again had curled toes. All these eggs were shipped, and from different breeders, so I couldnt attribute the curled toes to a vitamin deficiency. The third time, I used a thermometer on the inside, and found the bator was running approximately 2.0 degrees lower. Also, for some reason, the temp ran even LOWER when I operated in the farenheit setting.

I never thought about using a thermometer on the inside because I guess I am an idiot, and also because this incubator was a pricey chunk of change and I guess I just assuuuumed it would work???

So, in order to get it running where I need it, I have to operate in celcius at 38.9C which gives me exactly 100F. It holds the temp spot on, but I have to subtract 2 degrees from the digital readout to know where Im at. I also now use an interior thermometer. The humidity read out is give or take 2 or 3 %. Its a fancy looking incubator, and doesnt take up a lot of counter space, which I like. I like the view window also. Overall, I still like it, but if I had to choose again, I would buy a brinsea. I certainly wouldnt spend this kind of money for another one of these. But, I know a lot of other people have had ZERO problems...guess everyone makes a lemon every now and then. I wouldnt exactly call it a lemon... because it hatches. But maybe they should start including a trusty mercury thermometer with their orders... oh and some bandaids and popcicle sticks, too

While I am completely burned out on these, I am so glad that there are folks who like theirs and are having great hatches with them. I just wanted to alert everyone that IF you are having any issues and are thinking about returning them, it must be done before 6 months...not 1 year.

I always had to run mine at 100.3 to keep the eggs at a hatchable temp.

As a FYI...if you want to reset it to factory settings, unplug the bator and while holding the "-" button, plug it back in. You will see the readout change.

Holy crap! You guys have got me freaking out! Lol. I have two r com 20s. I'm assuming they all have the same problems? I haven't had problems with mine yet, and I thought that they were goin to save me from harrible hatches.... Now I'm worried:(. I hope I can return at least one of them.) After I return it I'm putting it to a dickey. I've heard so much about them, and now I'm not worried anymore the excited!

Hi Nodaksnakelover. I keep the air hole half open during incubation opening it fully the last three days. This has worked well. I also used thermometers to calibrate the proper temp. Like Three Ceders Silkies, I have to run them at 100.3 degrees.

Wrong...the warranty for all incubators sold after January 2010 is only 6 months!! Think they know they have a problem???

Here is the email:

"Judy,
I double-checked & the warranty on all units sold after Jan 1st 2010 is 6 months so yours is out of warranty. We are also no longer a repair center for these units. The only repair center in the USA now is Lyon in San Diego. We stopped being a warranty repair center after October 2010. I again want to let you know I understand your frustration. Please contact Maggie at Lyon for repair & if you have further questions about warranty please discuss with them as they need to make the decision.

I have copied Maggie at Lyon in San Diego and am asking that she return email you. If you don't hear from her within a day please email her at [email protected]

I have also again copied the manufacturer with our communication. Again, I am sorry you have experienced this problem."

I wanted to add..."Not nearly as sorry as I am that I bought this crappy thing!!"

I'm just back tracking a bit....to this bit-> "Judy,
I double-checked & the warranty on all units sold after Jan 1st 2010 is 6 months"

I wonder if they amended the terms of the warranty because they were receiving more and more complaints?

A 6 month warranty on expensive items doesn't inspire faith in the product does it? And on a personal note, every time I get awarranty that says how long blah, blah, blah, then that is how long they're gonna last because on several occassions, I've had a few things keeled over just when the warranty runs out! *so go figure!*
