RE: "Exotic" mystery chick- any ideas to which breed this cutie might be?

I can't be sure, but having a hen would sure would be a good surprise. It just seems to act like a roo- hanging out with our PR boys, sometimes getting into quick hopping/ leg kicking matches. We think this chick is at the bottom of dominance pecking order as the boys sometimes pick it's feathers out of the neck or butt (poor little chick.).

Hmm... Well I guess only a crow or egg will tell.

A couple more weeks and gender will be more evident. I had a couple bird this year I was 110% sure were girls that started crowing, As well as vice versa, so sometimes it is harder to tell than others.

Either you have a female or the rooster feathers will come in later. I know they change quite a bit in the first year. You should keep this thread updated to let us know how s/he turns out. I'm pretty sure his roo feathers will grow in in a few months as many breeds have different looking roosters but they can't be told apart till they are older.

I have a welsummer chick that is partridge stripes right now, but I know he is a male and he will have solid color splotches when he is older.

ive had two adult hens kick up at each other like roosters but im sure they were hens

As you can see, the little one is still feathering in. The comb is small and slightly reddish, and has small waddles.

S(he) has a long neck and likes to stand tall.

Have just noticed a few new, different feathers on the shoulder back.
As you can see, the comb is similar in size, and color to our PR RIR hens of the exact same age.
