RE-INTRODUCTION of Broody

Morning all.....

I have a stubbornly broody hen....have tried to break her, and with temps here, and conditions within coop, I cannot crate her with the others.

So if I bring her in to break her, will re-introduction be an issue...will they treat her like a complete new comer, or remember her as one of there own??

my only option is an unheated garage, or semi-heated mud room in basement, but either way she will be out of sight, smell, and total connection with others, and coops.

I tried to crate her within the covered run this weekend, but had to return her to coop (uncrated) at night, and even after dark when she was placed on roost, back to the nest box she would go.

so HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......this is a battle of wits, and wills and she is winning right now....LOL....

It *should* only take 3-4 days to break her spell, the poultry politics of her flock shouldn't be too disrupted in that time, she *should* be able to fit right back in with her flockmates. There may be a bit of head pecking as things get re-established, but no injuries or bloodshed.

Is there a way you can hang a cage in the coop? The main thing is to have her up where she feels airflow up underneath her, that's what usually makes them break their broody spell.

as for hanging in the coop, I don't see how...my coop is small, only 8 foot wide, and bout 4 foot deep, and it is elevated bout 18" off ground...so it is only 4'x8'x6' inside, and with feeder, water, and roost, there is no room to put more then a milk crate. I have a LARGE wire dog crate that I can put food and water in with her, but cannot "comfortably" get that in the coop with the other girls.

So I think my only option is in garage (unheated) or basement.

It's just with the temps in teen, and twentys in MD that I'm worried bout to much airflow around her...LOL....just want to break broody, not make chickensickle.

any more ideas from anyone.....

how to break a broody when can't hang cage in coop(to small), or in run (to cold)....
guess I'm going to have to bring her back in house right?????

I need ideas from experience...

I gave my broody some fertile eggs I got from another BYC member who lives near me. "Can't brake 'um? Join 'um!"

Its getting to that point.....I may be game...

Any one around Glen Burnie (central Anne Arundel County) Maryland.....

If it were spring time I could just leave her crated, in the run, but not now WAY to cold to confine in open air.

any more suggestions??????????
