I agree with Mojo and Ranchand

I give my eggs away, but really its none of anyone's business but mine.

I got chickens because I have a large garden. I had no idea how much I would love said chickens.

Then, by golly, eggs came right out of the chickens I love!

I give away eggs to family first, then friends and co workers. Some co workers are folks who are working hard to raise a family and these eggs help feed their kids and besides, they are delicious.

Granted, I have a job and can afford to feed my 12 hens or I wouldn't have gotten them, for Pete's sake. I doubt that my giving away eggs will hurt anyone's business. Though, I appreciate the point of view.

chalk me up as 'stupid'.

any business you start will show a loss the first year, hopefully break even the second and make a small profit the third.

it is not the fault of others charging a 'stupid' price, but biting off more business than can be reasonably maintained.

an open letter pointing the finger of 'stupidity' is bully tactics.

anyone want a dozen free eggs?

first one to PM gets a free dozen, including shipping.

Free eggs to Quail Antwerp. that was a super fast PM.

congrats!

there are all different ways to profit from eggs. no one is 'better, smarter or faster'. we will have to agree to disagree and do what works for each person/family/business.

IF someone wants to buy some of my eggs I charge $2.00 a doz, thats if they have the money, if not I give them to them. I also feed my children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, I did not get chickens to make money from them(but would be nice to help pay for feed) I just enjoy my ladies, I had rather give a hunger person,or animal something to eat than make a buck off them.Sorry i hurt your feelings, but they are my eggs marrie

I can understand that you want your business to succeed, and that where you are located you feel that the price you are setting works for YOUR locale. Many people do not have the expenses to cover that you do. It is up to you to find a market for you to sell your eggs for that price, not others to match your price so that your price is reasonable.

I have not sold any eating eggs, I share them with friends and family. I have given them away as hatching eggs too.

I barter them for peace of mind. My neighbors enjoy the eggs, and they keep an eye out for anything strange, and now they see the rooster's crow as a delicious treat.

I am sure that if you look, and work hard, you will be able to market your free range organic eggs, and maybe even make a profit. Good luck.

Chickens may be a little expensive to keep, but they've saved me thousands in therapy bills. I have a whole yard full of little therapists running around.
I sell my eggs for $1 a dozen to all the police officers in my SO's dept. Most of those guys are just starting out in their careers and have young children to feed. Cops around here aren't paid well, I don't care what anyone says.
I also sell eggs for $1 to an elderly neighbor lady.
Everyone else pays $2.
They're my chickens and I get to decide how much (if any) I charge for their eggs.
The girls make enough to pay their feed bill and that's good enough for me.

Agreed

Chickens are fun for me, they are my hobby. My fun does not depend on selling eggs/birds. If I had to stress about making money I wouldn't enjoy them.
