Reaction to first snow

We got a really heavy snowfall last December. I wanted to see how the girls would do in the snow, so I grabbed my victim, my light brahma. Our snow is usually really compacted, so I didn't think much of it. I went to put her down on the snow (softly of course) and let go. The snow was nothing but powder and she instantly sunk a foot down. I picked her back up and put her back in the coop, and man was she ticked!

Thank you, Laurel! That's Ariana, my beauty queen. I think she's beautiful too! The farmer I bought my girls from says they're Auracanas (3 of them), but from my reading here I wouldn't doubt they're just EEs. They lay blue eggs. Behind her is my one BO, Judy.

Today was day two of snow adventures for our pullets. They went out in the snow and scratched around but when a big gust of wind came and the snow was flying, they ran back into the coop as fast as they could.

This afternoon, I took out some warm oatmeal with apple & raisins for the girls. Only 2 would go out into the pen to get their treat. I wanted to clean their coop & freshen food & water. Well, it was when I threw in some wild birdseed and scratch, that the other two went out. The funny part is that I have plastic on the West & North sides of the pen, so there was no snow it there. I guess they didn't even want to look at the white stuff. I don't blame them. I froze my butt waiting for them to go out so I could shut the pop door & do my chores. lol
