Just got a phone call that my ducklings will be sent sooner than expected! This is my first time owning ducks, and I've been doing research for what seems like FOREVER, but it's finally happening! I have a trio of female Rouens on their way and should be arriving Friday.

I already have some supplies for the brooder set up but I was wondering if anyone had some tips on things they wished they knew before? Any tricks for setting up the brooder and keeping it clean that you learned later on and wished you would've done out the gate? Thanks in advance! Very excited to get going

Ahh how exciting! May I ask where you ordered them from? :)

Sorry, it took me awhile to get back here. I first started with a large tote and that got replaced by the kiddie pool about a week later. Larger areas are easier to maintain believe it or not.

I have a 50 gallon tub set up right now but I planned a pool as backup! Just tested out my temps tonight, perfect 90 degrees for the new babies! I’m sure they’ll be moving to the pool pen sooner rather than later, but the tub gives them extra protection from the rest of my zoo animals . In a pool I’ll have to put them downstairs where it is a little cooler.

Hi and congrats!!! How exciting for your babies to show up early!

So where are you planning on keeping the new babies? I ask because you stated the pool was a backup but would be downstairs. Just trying to get a feel for what you are working with. Plus... lol, what other zoo animals do you have? I am very intrigued ;)

Here’s my set up! I’m sure they will outgrow it fast, but it’ll be a good start. I didn’t put the pine shavings in yet because I’ve read some things saying to wait a day or two to put them in. Until then I have a million and ten unscented puppy pads I can use :D. We work/foster for a local animal rescue so I always have a ton on hand haha. My zoo consists of three dogs and three cats, one of each species is special needs to top it all off! Growing up I always had a wide array of animals (SW fish, guinea pigs, bunnies, cats, dogs) so I’ve always deemed my house “the zoo” lol
