Ready Set Hatch! Set 3/17 Hatch 4/7 - ready now! Hatch-Along

Here is my first Wheaten Marans. It's a lot darker than I expected and the back of its neck is a bit swollen. Hoping that goes down. Otherwise it's active. The remaining four eggs are wiggling, two are pipped, resting. No activity from the Coronation Sussex eggs still. I'll hit day 21 at 10pm.

I do believe my first chick piped at the wrong end of the egg. The chick has made a big hole so maybe it will be ok. I can't really help it because others have piped and I can't sacrifice all that humidity for one egg. Know what I mean?

He may have actually done it on the right end of the egg, but I can't tell because that egg is rounded on both ends. Of he is on the wrong end, that might explain the little bit of blood I saw earlier

She is darker than the 2 (or 3 with possibly mismarked egg) I hatched - I can't tell because it looks like a shadow on her back. Is she all yellow/gold or is her back darker? She looks very sweet! :) Mine are pale yellow all over except the dot on their heads. Huh. Maybe they have a dark hen in their breeders. Here's two of my wheatens-

if it's making a big hole and progressing then it should do fine. It must have managed to get into the right position. When you candled did you mark where the air cells were? If so it would normally pip near the lower dip in the air cell. Sending you some good hatching vibes!

Morning all, it's the 9th here. A special 'thread starter HAPPY BIRTHDAY' to Pam! Pretty sure it is today my time!

Those Bluebells look very cool. I will hassle you for more pics down the track as I would love to see them feathered out.

Went to bed last night with 1/5 pips

Woke up early 5:30 stirred and (naturally) checked the 'bator 3/5 pips

Hope to come home this afternoon to be greeted by some lavender chicks!

Good luck all, look forward to reading up on how things are going, particularly, Dylon and Mel.

Ugh, yeah, my second marans is taking its good ole time zipping. It's agonizing to watch. They made a big hole and aren't progressing with their turning very well. This is the first egg to pip and has been sitting there for a day and a half. I can't help but think they are a bit drier in there than they should be.

My first marans is darker on the back. Will be easier to see when it's all dry, fluffed and out of the incubator.

Hey now - don't rush me...I have a couple more days to be this young LOL! It's Friday the 12th but thank you :)
I'll definitely send ya some bluebell pics as they grow. They're really popular in the UK but not very common here either.
I really am curious about the lavender araucanas - will these be rumpless?

My marans were agonizingly slow to start zipping too! All my others were quick. After I had the stuck & glued in place chick I increased the humidity to somewhere between 75 and raining off the lid (I couldn't see my hygrometer through the window above 75) and the last three were quicker for some reason once pipped. Maybe they need more humidity?

Just a couple photos :)
