I saw you have some that look like these!Well, final count. 46 eggs set, 37 eggs hatched, with one mortality. Have one with a leg problem; I don't know if it grew wrong in the shell or hurt itself somehow after hatch; looks like one leg goes straight out the front and the other is bent up underneath and to the back. for now it's scooting around on it's belly, waiting to see if it can straighten itself out. So anyhoo about 80% hatch, which was pretty good. I checked all the ones that didn't hatch and sadly they all had chicks in them but one, which looked to be a clear that I missed removing at lock down. Just wondering what I can do to get the hatch rate even better.... I put a few more pics up on my garden blog (link in my siggy) and will try to add some different ones every few days.![]()
Well my final count is 18. The last one I had to zip all the way, put the lid back on and wait for it to push itself out. It did, dried and is now with the rest who are 3dys older!
I also had a late quail hatch so that makes 18 as well. Must be my magic number....
Yes and some that look like hokankai's too. Lots of variation, tho I'm thinking, looking at wing feather growth, I have a lot of boys. I need to check them by individual hen. I think one of the old girl's only gave me boys. If that's the same with the next hatch I won't hatch any more from her, but will put in a different girl.
Dylon, I don't know if there is a magic number for 'too many' but I would think when the conditions can't keep up with birds then your looking at too many.
If they have not got adequate space, are restricted in food or water, nesting boxes are limited or even roosting space then possibly too many. If those basic can be met I would think 'enough is never enough' hahahaha
Explains why I am in the middle of a big coop re-vamp!
Out of curiosity, how many eggs a day would you average with 50 birds? And what do you do with them?
Everyone else, great to hear. Hokankai, you look to have a very beautiful property, lush lawns, big veranda. So green right now!
Pam, Baby II is going well. Much smaller and lighter, but walking normally eating and drinking on it's own. I think it's a perfect name. Thanks.
Glad we did not see any disaster hatches like I have seen in other hatch along threads. I mean, we have seen some some bad news, but not like complete loss of full sets and so on. I think a excellent hatch along, thanks to Wrightx4 for getting it happening waaaaaaay back 84 pages ago!
I am looking forward to coming back in a bit to share some feathering out pics, hope you guys do too.
