Ready to garden?

Glad to see I am not the only one going stir crazy, I would like to get my garden plowed and ready for all the compost I have ready but this rain just will not let up. I am sure as soon as I start planting it will get dry as a bone. lol

I will be starting some vegetables indoors this month and cleaning up the garden to start planting a few things early next month. I can't wait until it warms up to have tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkins, flowers and peppers (my peppers didn't make it last year).

After being able to do some yard work last week due to nice weather, my yard is now buried in about 2 ft of snow. :p

In just four more cold long long long long months from now I can start working on my garden. I never plant anything before the 1st of May, I lost to much to frost in the past. Oh well, spring will get here I guess.

Ah yes I remember Michigan winters well, glad I'm not dealing with them at the moment.

However, for those trapped inside by the snow and cold now is the time to get you gear all cleaned up and ready for when the weather breaks. Check your shovels and spades and make sure they are cleaned and sharpened. Sharpen your pruning shears, check your rakes and hoes. Make sure your garden hose is okay and not cracked and broken. Check your mowers and take them in to be serviced now instead of waiting for the spring rush.

Visit the garden centers of your local home builders supply area and see what stuff they still have available. If you need to buy some more landscape timbers, see if they have some on sale now and buy them. See if they have bags of soil, compost, peat ready and get them and set them aside. Get your fertilizers, weed killers, bug killers if you use them, lined up and ready.

Make a plan for your garden, what you plan to grow for food, what you plan to have as flowers, what plants you may have to replace that didn't do well or survive the winter. For those that have fruit trees, now that the leaves are off, check for any branches that are growing straight up and prune them off.

If you have space in a garage or shed, build the frames for trellises that you may need for vining type plants and set them aside.

Glad to see another Kentucky Gardener on here! Don't worry, will be able to plow the ground in March, and get planting by the middle of April!

Hopefully if things work out, I'll have my own little piece of land to farm on myself by then.

4 more months of snow here:)
I did draw out my garden on paper as I do every year. Then I look outside and realize that my garden isn't actually as big as it is on paper. (I can only tell by the tops of the t-posts sticking through the snow). I will be expanding it this year and adding corn, strawberries and raspberries. I won't attempt sweet potatoes again

They came too late from Gurneys and grew to the size of carrots.

My DH wrapped my hose up in the snowblower when we had an early snowfall. I should start a list for Lowes.
