Ah yes I remember Michigan winters well, glad I'm not dealing with them at the moment.
However, for those trapped inside by the snow and cold now is the time to get you gear all cleaned up and ready for when the weather breaks. Check your shovels and spades and make sure they are cleaned and sharpened. Sharpen your pruning shears, check your rakes and hoes. Make sure your garden hose is okay and not cracked and broken. Check your mowers and take them in to be serviced now instead of waiting for the spring rush.
Visit the garden centers of your local home builders supply area and see what stuff they still have available. If you need to buy some more landscape timbers, see if they have some on sale now and buy them. See if they have bags of soil, compost, peat ready and get them and set them aside. Get your fertilizers, weed killers, bug killers if you use them, lined up and ready.
Make a plan for your garden, what you plan to grow for food, what you plan to have as flowers, what plants you may have to replace that didn't do well or survive the winter. For those that have fruit trees, now that the leaves are off, check for any branches that are growing straight up and prune them off.
If you have space in a garage or shed, build the frames for trellises that you may need for vining type plants and set them aside.
