I did not hatch out enough chicks this year and as such I have 4 roosters that need to go but that won't feed the family for the year :D. So I am ready to jump into meat chickens! Where do you buy your chicks?

I am now pricing them out and am finding such a difference in price and descriptions for Cornish hybrid chickens!

I purchased mine from Murray McMurray and am very pleased. The only common issue that mine had was the watery poo but that was fixed once I started feeding fermented feed. The ones I butchered so far ended up weighing an average of 3 lbs dressed out in 5 weeks. I'm not sure if that is good or not compared to everyone else's but I'm happy. Also, I haven't had any die (other than by my hand).

We get ours from Welp. We have bought at least 2,000 meaties from them and have always been happy with their birds and their customer service.

I'm on my first batch, 35 Freedom Rangers from the hatchery in the post before me. Ordered 35, got 36. One died during the first week, 4 killed and one injured by a predator two nights ago. Otherwise, all healthy and growing.

I like Schletch. I'm trying to guess if our weather here will cooperate before getting the next batch of 50 from them.

We are in Texas so we ordered from Ideal, we bought the red broilers and they free ranged all day and were fed twice a day grain. They matured between 6 pounds pullets and 7.5 pounds for cocks. We let them grow until 13 weeks. They were friendly and healthy.

I just ordered our first batch of 25 CX last week they will arrive next week. They were ordered from Meyers Hatchery. I dont know how the birds are from there but they were the best price I could find on the few hatcheries I know of. I will let you know how the birds turn out.

I also ordered broiler booster from Murray Mcmurray

I like using Central Hatchery http://www.centralhatchery.com/ or Norfolk Hatchery http://norfolkhatchery.com/ both in Nebraska. Norfolk Hatchery does some deliveries in Minnesota, so they might even throw any order on the truck. Cheaper for them to deliver large batches than shipping them through the mail. Both places have reasonable prices at $0.80 a chick for an order of 100 or more. They are only a few miles apart so the local competition helps keep their prices low. Both places specialize in broilers and don't have a ton of chicken breeds. I have raised birds from both places and have had great results.
