Real Genetics Puzzler for the Experts (New Pics post #25)

Well, there's always tomorrow. Hopefully we will both get some answers. A broody hatched our little one and it got stuck in the shell, momma tried to help but caused the baby to bleed and the membrane dried out. So we took the babies from the momma and swapped them with some older chicks. Had to do it in the middle of the night because she was sooo protective.

Looks like barring but i don't have a clue as to how it happened. Is the beak looking yellow? or is that just he camera glare? Very interesting, you will have to keep us up on this.

Yes, the beak is yellowish, Julie. Isnt this interesting? I am going to keep this one and the other baby of Meg's that is completely different from this one for awhile so I can watch them feather out. See the reddish/bluish baby in front of Dusty in this pic? That is also Suede and Meg's baby! It's a week younger and the wing feathers are just now coming in so don't know if there will be any barring in them yet

Very interesting. I am sure the yellow beak is from the RIR gene. will be interesting to see how the little red chicks feathers.

This is what your chicks will possibly look like, this one is from a blue orpington roo and a buff orp hen. Her sister is behind on the left.

Close up view.

Tony, you posted these once before, didn't you? That girl of yours isn't barred, but it isnt exactly spangling, either. Genes are fascinating things, certainly. Thanks for posting those for me.

Your welcome, Cynthia:)
I threw the pics of this pullet in here again, just in case someone might be curious of what yours and Shultz chick.... may, quite possibly, could, kinda sorta, probably not..look like. lol
Good luck, they are adorable little things. Tony

Wow, this is TOO cool. Sports, either curly or barred, or mottled sure are fun to see. I can't wait to see them grow up Cyn.

I've been staring at my three BA/BR babies who should be BA colored until they get adult feathers and then black. But darned if they aren't showing barring on the wings.

Life with chickens is anything but predictable.
