Don't panic. Most of what you are seeing is the third eyelid, and other tissues surrounding the eye. They are red and swollen because of the infection/irritation of the eye.

You can see a small part of the cornea in one of the pics, and it does look cloudy. That is typical with various infections/injuries. The whole thing looks worse because of the third eyelid being tacked over the eye. This is a valid therapeutic technique, but it doesn't look pretty.

The only part that really concerns me is the time frame. Two or three weeks is a long time for no improvement.

hi..thanks doc...yeah..thats what concerns me to(the time frame)..also..the eye lid is no longer tacked...she removed the stitches this thursady...and told me to continue with the meds..and return this coming thursday....so..since its not tacked anymore..what is that then?....thanks, Wendy

..hi lurky...

..yeah..i know this..lol..but..the eye has been this way for at least 2 weeks now..(with the vet seeing it and everything..)..so its not a "new" thing...but, i really think that i am going to call another vet tomorrow morning...see if i can get him in someplace differant...get a differant opinion on it...alot of people have chimed in and suggested that i should do that...(and i agree.)..and i will to be on the safe side..even though he's under a vets care now...i'm just not seeing enough(or any!) improvement...thanks!!..

Can adapt to an eye removal suprisingly well so if you do have to remove it don't worry. He will be his same old self in no time, just minus the eye.

ahh!!!..he better not lose his eye!...i put my trust in this vet...i just kept thinking that she knows what shes doing...OR..i would have hoped that she would have had the common decency to direct me to another vet..if this condition was out of her realm of knowledge...i would have hoped so anyways..Thanks, Wendy

Hi there

Just been reading about your cat and just wanted to say try not to worry. To try and put your mind at rest a little, your vet has been doing the right thing so far and corneal scratches/ulcers can take ages to heal. I cant say if the outcome will be favorable or not as this can vary depending on initial damage and if infection has taken hold but how you vet is treating your cat is standard practice

Have a read of the link ... it explains about corneal ulceration and treatment.

Hope everything works out good for your cat.

im sorry to see the pic on your kitty, since the cat got a scratch on the eye itself the eye will have to be removed, my deceased cat amber had that happened and it looked identical and what will happen is she/he eye will turn white and very nasty and if left alone will eventually rot out of the cats head. if you get the cats eye removed digit will no longer be in pain. but its better than being in pain and watching its eye rot. get that cat to a good vet not a quack ASAP!!!! for that poor cats welfare and do it quick

What a nightmare you (and Digit) have gone through! I have a special spot in my heart for tabbies, and Digit's pictures just broke mine!

My vote is also to get a second opinion. Lots of kisses and hugs to Digit, and hang in there Mommy - your baby will pull through this!
