Apparently the "egg song" is something else I have to look forward to? I have two leghorn hens, not of laying age quite yet (but getting closer). The white one seems to love me. She loves to fly up and perch on me. Doesn't budge when I walk around with her, and lets me pet her. She's a sweetie. I have different theories on the "egg song". 1) They want their favorite human to support them through the "labor pains". 2) The song is due to the "labor pains". 3) They are announcing to anyone and anything around that they have eggs in their nest(s), and not to come near. My neighbors don't seem to mind the rooster crowing. Hopefully they won't mind the hens "egg songs" if they do it. lol
BTW: Is it just the younger, more inexperienced hens that do it, or do they still do it when they get older?
