Really upset... someone reported me.

I would check, too. The laws in each area are different. Some are very specific, some not so specific. Be honest - tell the agent that you are rehoming a certain number, and will only be keeping x number of chickens. You had to wait until the babies were x weeks old in order to sex them, etc.

So sorry you're having issues. Our neighbors all just wanted to know if we had a rooster, and when we said no, they were relieved and really interested. It is still a bit of a novelty for most people. Good luck!

Face book has a way of turing something good into something bad. Unfortunately you have to think about every word or statement
one posts on FB before doing so. We had a Teacher in this area post that she was not looking forward to teaching this year because the kids
were so rude in her school. Guess what she didn't have to worry anymore they fired her. Just for saying a simple fact. Be careful on FB People sometimes
are not what they seem.

I bet it was a FB friend who reported you!

Hopefully AC will allow the chicks till you can sex them.

I am careful what I write on FB and rarely post pictures. You post it and FB *owns* it.

I know you won't like what I have to say, but you were breaking the laws/regulations for your area. That doesn't mean I agree with someone reporting you, but that is a chance you took. There are people I work with who continually do things they aren't allowed to do while on the job, and then belly-ache when another co-worker turns them in, and they keep looking for ways to get away with breaking the rules. I guess I just don't get it. I do feel bad for you somewhat, but maybe you should work towards being able to move out in the country where you can have more chickens. It could take awhile, but it is SO worth it. Good luck with your situation.

There is only one thing I hate worse than people who rat on others for absolutely no good reason at all: That is people who say 'well you asked for it!' What about a little 'live and let live!!'

i'm sorry, jenesis536. i've had Animal Control show up on my doorstep, anonymous complaint from someone who said i had "a LOT of animals". Luckily for me, we are okay with what we have, based on our lot size. When we were down in Los Angeles, i was on the edge of illegal - too close on one side for the set-back requirements. i just laid low and tried to stay on good terms with everyone. i also did not talk about my chickens to anyone except one neighbor. When we moved to Northern California i did a lot of research to make sure we bought a home where we could keep our chickens without fear of having them taken away.

i'm not sure who complained about us here. i have my suspicions, but then sometimes you can be surprised at who might take it upon themselves to try to give you grief. i hope you find out who turned you in. Good to know who isn't your friend.

Good luck with everything. i hope it all works out for you. What area of CA are you in? Maybe there is someone else here in the same county who has information about zoning and code enforcement for keeping chickens in your area.
